2 Things A Job Counselor Can Do For You

Trying to find the right job for you can be difficult. If you have been looking for a job for a while but have still had problems finding one, there are things that you can do. One of them is to go to a job counselor. The counselor can do various things for you that can help you be successful in your job search.

Resume/Cover Letter Touchup

One thing that the career counselor can do for you is to help you touchup your resume and cover letter. You want to make sure that your resume is concise and to the point and that the people who are going to be looking at it can find information easily. No one wants to have to spend a lot of time trying to find anything on your resume. The same thing goes for your cover letter, but it is even more important that your cover letter be nice, neat, and concise. You also want to make sure that it is tailored towards the job and company you are applying for. Adding that little extra touch can set you apart from everyone else. But if your cover letter goes on and on and just rambles, then you run the risk of the person in charge of the job hunt just tossing it out.

Interest Inventories and Surveys

There are various inventories and surveys that you can take as well. These things can help you figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are and what kind of job you may be suited for. For example, you might want to take the Strong Interest Inventory. The interest inventory is named after its creator, Dr. Edward Kellogg Strong, Jr., not because you have a strong interest in something. The test is broken down into six separate areas, realistic, artistic, investigative, social, enterprising, and conventional. Each of those areas is then broken down even further. The results of those tests can tell you various kinds of things, including what kind of leadership style you might have, what kind of career field you might excel in, and several other things.

If you are trying to find a job and not having all that much luck, or even just trying to figure out what field to go into, there are things you can do to help yourself. That can include seeing a job counselor or career placement counselor, such as at Career Assessment Site. They have all kinds of tools they can use to help you.
